Individual
Therapy
We all need a bit of help throughout life. I work with individuals having difficulty with anxiety, depression, the fallout from trauma, substance use, and life transitions.
First Responders
It's hard for First Responders to find someone who truly 'gets it'. I guarantee you I will not ask you how a difficult call made you 'feel'. As a former FR, let me help you help yourself. I can assist in the develop your awareness, resources, and skills to better manage FR stress, to include Post Traumatic Stress Injuries, and develop resiliency, in a no nonsense, judgment free space. To support and enhance talk therapy, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting, evidenced based tools to process the memories, images, feelings, etc. that feel 'stuck'.
Substance Dependency
I have several years of experience working with those dependent on alcohol and or other substance, to include those battling substance(s) AND a emotional health issues and disorders.
My Approach
My approach is straight forward and goal directed, with the intent of getting folks back to their lives, jobs, family, and friends, which may include a 'new normal'. I adapt my approach dependent on the individual in front of me. For example, I may incorporate a trauma tool and a relevant evidenced based therapy for those experiencing the fallout from a traumatic event(s), work collaboratively with an individual experiencing a life adjustment issue, or assign goal driven tasks for an individual looking for a career transition.
About me
After several years of providing peer support to First Responders in the SF Bay Area, Oregon, Colorado, Washington, and Arizona, to include co-founding a 6 day residential treatment program for Responders experiencing anxiety, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Injury symptoms, I decided it was time to enhance my skills by completing a graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling, to better serve those who serve. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting; both are interventions proven to be very helpful in processing issues/incidents causing symptoms, relationship or employment issues.
Getting Help
As Carl Jung once stated, "I am not what happened to me; I am what I chose to become." We all have experiences that change us, we all make mistakes, we all need objective support, for the better and worse. Let me assist you get on with your life; the life you deserve, whether you believe it or not.
